Captains Square Off
- Sharks captain Keegan Daniel and Sunfoil Dolphins captain Imraan Kahn have offered their differing opinions on Sunday’s Pick n Pay Durban Challenge Clash of Kings Pro 20 Matchup between the two teams at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.

This is an opportunity for sports fans to enjoy a day of fun for a good cause, in an environment that is completely different to the respective teams and their supporters.

The KZN Cricket Union are excited about hosting this occasion, enjoying a fun day and watching some great cricket. “It’s an exciting event, the guys are looking forward to it,” said Imran Kahn of the Dolphins.

“A number of us went to school with some of the players from The Sharks’ squad and hopefully it will be a fantastic day. I personally played cricket with Alistair Hargreaves so I know we have to give our best. We’re going to go out there and have a good time.”

Keegan Daniel explained that, “This is an opportunity to bring two sporting codes together building a relationship. It has created quite a lot of banter within our team as to who is a decent batsman or bowler. And who is going to bring the drinks on. It’s been a tight fight for the 11 guys who will bat and the 15 who will field and we’re really looking forward to it – although don’t expect too many fireworks from us!”

“But we have a few secret weapons,” he warned. However, that is made more difficult by the fact that selection is based more on reputation than cricketing form. “The problem is that we don’t know how honest the boys are being,” he said. “Some are saying they played 1st XI at school for four years, but I don’t know if they’ve even caught a cricket ball at all!”

Names bandied about include Patrick Lambie, Charl McLeod, Ryan Kankowski, Craig Burden and a few of the youngsters. He added that Beast is also keen to play. Although they have to cut the team down from all the interest. “And who wants to tell a guy like Beast he can’t play?”

He admitted that for The Sharks, this is all about having a good time and enjoying themselves on Sunday, all for a good cause. “I personally haven’t played a game of cricket since matric, eight years ago. In my mind I can still play, but whether or not I can produce the goods on the field will be a little bit different,” he concluded.

“I won’t say there is panic in our camp, but we will be very thorough in our preparations,” said Dolphins coach Graham Ford. “We have cameras in the nets, we’ve invited The Sharks to a few practice sessions and we won’t be caught off-guard. Who knows, we might even make a signing or two!”

Proceeds from the match will be split between The Sharks’ Making a Difference campaign and the Sunfoil Dolphins’ Development Programme. Gates open at 10am and the game kicks off at 12 noon.
